Welcome back, human, to reality!
Whether you’ve been soaking up the sun, enjoying trails in the mountains, exploring a new city, or simply staying at home and taking some well-deserved time off, now is the time to slowly get the basics back in order with a post-holiday digital marketing checklist.
After a holiday, it can be easy to feel overwhelmed by everything that has happened while you were away. Your inbox is full, your social media may have gone quiet, your PPC campaigns may have been suspended for unknown reasons, and there may be a few important digital marketing tasks waiting for your attention.
That’s where DMalip can help.
This post-holiday digital marketing checklist covers six things we recommend that business owners check after returning from holiday – from website security and paid advertising to SEO, organic marketing channels, relationships, business growth, and your own wellbeing.
Because getting your digital marketing back on track isn’t only about checking your website, campaigns, and analytics.
It’s also about people, balance, and the human behind the business.
What should you check after returning from holiday?
Why Six?
You may have noticed that we chose to share six points.
That number is intentional.
Numerology is also something we consider within our approach to business and personal development. We see numbers not simply as mathematical values, but as symbols that can carry different meanings and energies.
For us, 6 represents nurturing, responsibility, harmony, balance, care, and natural leadership. In our interpretation, it connects with creating supportive environments, building trust, caring for others, and inspiring loyalty through a nurturing approach to leadership.
And that connects beautifully with what we believe about business.
A successful online business is not only about numbers, technology, traffic, conversions, or profit. It is also about people, relationships, responsibility, balance, and creating something sustainable for both the business and the humans behind it.
That is why we chose six points.
And perhaps it is no coincidence that our sixth and final point is about balance and wellbeing – because sometimes the most important thing we can do for our business is to remember to look after ourselves, too. Now, let’s dig deeper together.
1. Check Your Website CMS and Security
Let’s start with risk mitigation.
You have probably spent a lot of time, money, and resources building your website and your online presence. Your website is one of your most important digital assets, so it makes sense to start here.
Unfortunately, websites can become targets for people looking to exploit security weaknesses. That’s why a quick post-holiday website security check should be one of the first things on your list.
Whether your website runs on WordPress, an e-commerce platform, or another CMS, start by checking the user accounts.
Are there any accounts you don’t recognise? Are there users who no longer need access? If you find anything suspicious, investigate it and remove unnecessary accounts where appropriate. An unknown or unnecessary user account could represent a potential security risk.
Next, check that your CMS, plugins, themes, and other essential software are up to date. If you use security plugins or other tools designed to protect your website, make sure they have been updated as well.
However, don’t simply click “update” and walk away. Check that the updates haven’t caused any problems with your website. Or as a professional to help you.
Test important pages, forms, checkout processes, contact forms, and other features to make sure everything is still working as it should.
It is also worth checking for broken links, unexpected changes to important pages, unusual redirects, and anything else that looks different from before your holiday.
If you use Google Search Console or another website monitoring platform, take a quick look for any warnings, indexing issues, security notifications, or unusual changes in performance.
Finally, check your blog comments and other user-generated content. Reply to genuine comments where necessary and remove spam or suspicious content.
A few minutes spent checking your website after returning from holiday could help you spot a security problem, outdated software, indexing issue, or other problem before it becomes much bigger.
2. Review the Performance of Your Paid Campaigns
Prioritisation in digital marketing is crucial. Before jumping into every task on your list, it helps to create a clear structure and process.
Paid advertising is a good place to start because you could be spending money every day while you are away. You want to make sure that your advertising budget is being invested as effectively as possible and delivering a healthy return on investment (ROI).
Map out all of your active paid campaigns and advertising channels. This could include display advertising, PPC campaigns on Google, Bing, or other search engines, as well as advertising on platforms such as Meta, TikTok, LinkedIn, and others.
Start by checking your spending. Make sure you are still within your planned budget and that you are not overpaying for campaigns that are no longer delivering good results.
If a campaign is spending money but generating little or no value, it may need to be paused, adjusted, or reviewed.
For PPC campaigns, run a keyword and search-term report to see exactly what kind of traffic you have been paying for. Look for irrelevant searches or keywords that are consuming your budget without generating useful visits, leads, or sales.
Add negative keywords where appropriate and review your targeting.
Next, look at conversions.
Are your campaigns still generating the leads, enquiries, or sales you actually want?
Don’t focus only on clicks and impressions. The real question is whether your advertising is generating something valuable for your business.
Check your cost per lead, cost per acquisition, conversion rate, and overall return where relevant. Compare these figures with your previous performance and your original campaign objectives.
Make sure you also respond to any customer questions, enquiries, or comments generated through your advertising. A great campaign can still lose potential customers if nobody follows up with them.
Security matters here too. Check your advertising accounts for any suspicious activity and review who has access to your campaigns.
Remove people who no longer need access and make sure the appropriate level of permissions is being used.
If you are putting a significant budget behind your advertising, keep copies or records of your campaigns, including important settings, targeting, creative assets, and budgets.
Having a backup of your campaign information can be extremely useful if something goes wrong with your account.
Setting up two-factor authentication (2FA) is also very good practice. It adds an extra layer of security to your paid advertising accounts and can help protect them from unauthorised access.
Finally, check your conversion tracking. Make sure your tracking pixels, tags, events, and analytics integrations are still working correctly.
A broken conversion-tracking setup can make a perfectly good campaign look unsuccessful – or worse, encourage you to spend money on campaigns that aren’t actually producing results.
Before you move on to your next digital marketing task, make sure you know where your advertising money is going, what it is generating, and whether your tracking is giving you reliable information.
3. Humans, Humans & Humans
One of the most important elements of running a successful business online is building and maintaining long-term, valuable relationships with other human beings.
Whether they are your customers, staff, suppliers, contractors, or business partners, it is essential to make time for them and maintain genuine communication.
Say hello when you return from holiday and check that everything is going well and running smoothly.
Address urgent and important matters first, and if something is less urgent, be honest about it and ask whether it can wait while you deal with higher priorities.
Honest communication is always better than telling people what they want to hear. We believe that integrity is one of the most important foundations of both personal and business life.
If you receive an urgent complaint or become aware of an unresolved issue, do not wait and hope it will disappear.
Pick up the phone, have the conversation, and address the matter directly.
Problems rarely solve themselves through silence.
The same principle works in the other direction. When someone goes the extra mile for you, show your appreciation.
A simple thank-you, a thoughtful gesture, or a small act of gratitude can go a long way and help build stronger relationships.
At the same time, good relationships do not mean accepting inappropriate or abusive behaviour. When something crosses the line, it needs to be addressed and, where appropriate, reported according to the situation and circumstances.
We do not believe that silence solves problems.
People do. Communication does. Integrity does. And sometimes, taking action does.
4. Review and Optimisation of All Your Existing Organic Channels
We hope that before you started your business, you created a clear list of all your crucial processes, as well as the organic digital marketing channels you planned to use.
Now is the time to step back and review what you already have.
Look at your current content and analyse how everything is performing.
Can you easily identify what is working well for your business, what is underperforming, and what has the potential to work better?
Review every organic channel separately, because each one requires a slightly different mindset and strategy.
Your organic channels might include:
While all of them can contribute to your overall marketing funnel, their individual purposes and roles can be very different.
Start by identifying which organic channels are bringing you the most traffic and engagement.
Then analyse the basic metrics available to you, such as unique visits, engagement rate, time spent on your site, conversions, organic clicks, impressions, click-through rate (CTR), and search ranking positions.
Google Search Console and your analytics platform can provide useful information about how your organic visibility and website traffic are changing.
Looking at the data as a whole will help you understand whether you are moving in the right direction or whether something needs to change.
For us, SEO remains one of the biggest organic channels, and it requires particular attention.
Search behaviour, competition, algorithms, and opportunities can change over time, so your SEO strategy should never be treated as something you simply set up once and forget about.
Review your important landing pages, search rankings, organic traffic, technical SEO issues, internal links, content performance, and opportunities for new or improved content.
It is also important to be clear about which markets and countries you are targeting.
Different countries can have very different behaviours, expectations, search patterns, and customer needs. Your messaging therefore needs to be personalised to the market you are targeting while still remaining consistent with your overall brand.
The goal is not simply to be present everywhere.
The goal is to understand what each organic channel is doing for your business, measure its performance, and continuously optimise it so that every channel has a clear purpose within your marketing funnel.
5. Continue to Grow Your Online Business with an Open Heart and Mind
Growing an online business requires clear direction, motivation, willingness to learn, a can-do attitude, and well-defined strategies and processes.
But it also requires you to remain open to new opportunities, new people, and new ways of doing things.
Regularly reach out to local authorities, organisations, and companies to see whether there are opportunities to collaborate for mutual benefit.
You never know where a valuable partnership, new opportunity, or useful connection may come from.
It is also important to stay informed about relevant algorithm updates and platform changes that may affect your business, your industry, or your particular niches.
The online environment changes constantly, and what works today may not necessarily work tomorrow.
Staying curious and informed allows you to adapt rather than simply react.
Continue networking with other founders, entrepreneurs, and people within your industry.
Building a strong network is not only about finding new business opportunities. It is also about creating a support system – people you can learn from, exchange ideas with, ask questions, and sometimes simply talk to when running a business becomes challenging.
Keep your direction clear, but do not close yourself off to unexpected opportunities.
Stay curious. Stay connected. Keep learning. And continue growing your business with an open heart and an open mind.

6. Always Remember that Balance and Wellbeing Matter
In everything we do, we believe that balance and wellbeing are crucial.
We believe that we have a mind, a body, and a soul, and that we need to nurture all of them. An imbalance in one area can sometimes create an unexpected cascade of challenges in other areas of our lives.
The same is true in the digital marketing ecosystem: when one part becomes unbalanced or neglected, it can affect everything else.
We also believe that many of the best things in life are free.
Time spent with the people we love.
Going into nature.
Hugging a tree.
Walking barefoot on the grass.
Waking up a little earlier to watch a beautiful sunrise with a fresh cup of warm tea or coffee, depending on your preference.
These simple moments can have a much greater impact on our wellbeing than we sometimes realise.
Digital marketing is not so different from life.
To become successful online, it takes attention, care, consistency, and the small efforts we make every single day.
The same applies to ourselves. We cannot continuously give, build, create, and perform without taking time to recharge.
If you feel overwhelmed, sometimes the wisest thing you can do is step back.
Give yourself some space.
Slow down.
Breathe.
Rest.
You may come back with greater clarity, strength, and a more grounded perspective.
And if you feel that your physical body is tired, you are experiencing discomfort, or you have lost connection with your personal mission and vision, remember that looking after yourself is not a weakness.
Your business can only be as strong and sustainable as the person behind it.
This is also why we offer distant Reiki healing sessions remotely across the globe. We genuinely believe that nurturing your physical, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing can be an important part of creating a more balanced life and business.

Frequently Asked Questions
What should I check first after returning from holiday?
Start with the areas that could create immediate risk or financial impact. Check your website security and functionality, then review your paid advertising spend and conversion tracking. Once those areas are under control, move on to your organic channels, customer relationships, and longer-term marketing strategy.
Should I review my PPC campaigns after a holiday?
Yes. If your campaigns continued running while you were away, check your spending, targeting, search terms, conversions, cost per acquisition, and conversion tracking. Look for irrelevant traffic and campaigns that are spending money without producing meaningful results.
What organic marketing channels should I review?
This depends on your business, but you may want to review SEO, organic social media, content marketing, blogging, email marketing, digital PR, and other organic sources of traffic.
Each channel should have a clear purpose and role within your marketing funnel.
Why is website security important after returning from holiday?
Your website may have continued operating while you were away, so it is worth checking user accounts, CMS software, plugins, themes, forms, checkout processes, comments, and other important functionality.
A quick security and functionality review can help identify potential issues before they become more serious.
How can business owners avoid feeling overwhelmed after returning from holiday?
Prioritise rather than trying to fix everything at once.
Start with urgent and important issues, create a clear process, and work through your tasks step by step.
It is also important to remember that your own wellbeing matters. Sometimes stepping back, resting, and returning with a clearer mind is more productive than trying to do everything immediately.
Why do you talk about humans and wellbeing in a digital marketing article?
Because we believe a business is ultimately built by and for people.
Digital marketing involves technology, data, platforms, algorithms, and strategy, but behind all of these are humans – customers, employees, partners, founders, and business owners.
Sustainable business growth should support the people behind the business, not come at the expense of them.
